Khammam, Sept.3 : The Central Crime Station (CCS) police in Khammam have arrested two men for forging forest department permits and illegal timber smuggling. The arrests were made following an investigation ordered by Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt, under the supervision of CCS Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohammad Sarwar and Inspector S. Rajkumar Goud.
The accused have been identified as Korra Shiva, a timber merchant from Gopyathanda in Suryapet district, and Radheshyam, a trader from Vijayawada. According to the police, Shiva obtained legitimate permits from the Khammam Forest Office for supplying Nalla Thumma (black babool) wood under private individuals’ names. He then tampered with the documents to change the timber details to Sandra (red catechu) wood. Using these fake permits, he illegally felled Sandra trees across villages including Ayyagaripalli, Kuravi, Seerole, Kampelli, and Mahabubabad, and sold the wood to Radheshyam.
During interrogation, police revealed that Korra Shiva already faces similar forest crime cases in Warangal and Mahabubabad districts. Investigating officers found that Radheshyam supplied the illegal timber to Abdul Raheman of AM Enterprises in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, where Sandra wood is processed to manufacture Katha (catechu) for pan masala. The accused had allegedly transported about nine lorry loads of illegal timber across state borders using forged permits.
Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody, and police stated that further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the racket. Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt commended ACP Sarwar, Inspector Rajkumar Goud, SI A. Vamshi Krishna, and the supporting police personnel for successfully solving the case.
