JAGTIAL, OCT.24 : Ibrahimpatnam police arrested 14 youths on Saturday for allegedly assaulting an army soldier at Bandalingapur village in Jagtial district. Officials recovered 14 mobile phones, seven motorcycles, and a steel wristband used in the attack, while launching a manhunt for remaining suspects involved in the violent clash.
According to Metpally CI B. Suresh Babu, the incident stemmed from an earlier dispute on the night of October 22, when some individuals from Bandalingapur attacked Vannela Vikas of Vellulla village. In retaliation, Vikas assembled around 30 friends and rode on two-wheelers from Vellulla to Bandalingapur past midnight. Around 1:00 AM on October 23, the group drove recklessly past people participating in Bathukamma celebrations near the local Hanuman temple.
When Tigurla Swami, an army soldier present at the spot, questioned their rash driving, an argument broke out. The youths then physically assaulted Swami, striking his face with a steel wristband and leaving him with severe bleeding injuries. Based on the victim’s complaint, Ibrahimpatnam police registered a case and launched an investigation.
On the morning of October 24, police apprehended 14 suspects from Vellulla village near Ibrahimpatnam X-Road in the outskirts of Medipally village. The arrested persons were remanded to judicial custody. Metpally CI B. Suresh Babu and Ibrahimpatnam SI G.
