HYDERABAD, OCT.25 ;: Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender called upon Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to rise above personal vendettas and address the severe environmental crisis caused by the Jawaharnagar dumping yard. Speaking at a round-table conference chaired by Professor Murali Manohar on Sunday, the MP urged the State government to adopt zero-pollution recycling technologies to permanently resolve the issue affecting thousands of local residents.
The MP highlighted the dire health hazards faced by communities residing within a 30-kilometer radius of the dump yard, noting that severe skin infections among children and high rates of miscarriages among women have turned the region into a living hell. He alleged that Ramky, the concessionaire managing the site, has failed to implement court orders and is diverting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds away from critical local infrastructure, such as drinking water and roads, while even denying livelihoods to local waste pickers.
Criticizing the Chief Minister for failing to act despite four months passing since their meeting on the issue, Rajender announced that he will launch a padayatra (foot march) from October 27 to mobilize public support and pressure the government into action. He stated that he had already raised the matter in Parliament and met with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, assuring that he would take responsibility for securing necessary funds from the Central government to establish modern waste-to-energy, biogas, and organic fertilizer recycling plants.
Expressing concern over governance priorities, the MP urged the Chief Minister to decide whether he wants to be remembered for constructive leadership or forgotten by history. He demanded an immediate stop to dumping fresh garbage at Jawaharnagar while completely recycling the existing waste. Environmentalists, intellectuals, and victims of the dump yard pollution attended the conference.
