KARIMNAGAR, OCT.27 : Karimnagar Rural Police arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly strangling his wife to death over a domestic dispute before attempting to flee the city. The accused, identified as Davu Chandra Kumar, a contract municipal laborer, was apprehended at the Teegalaguttapalli Railway Station after being on the run following the crime on October 25.
According to police, the accused had been demanding a divorce from his wife, Swaroopa, citing childlessness. However, her and her parents’ refusal angered him. On the night of October 25, in an inebriated state, Chandra Kumar contacted her family to take her away, but when they failed to turn up, he allegedly strangled his sleeping wife at around 11:30 PM in their rented house and fled the scene.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father the next morning, the police registered a case and launched a search operation. Acting on a tip-off at around 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Karimnagar Rural Inspector A. Niranjan Reddy and his team rushed to Teegalaguttapalli Railway Station, where they intercepted Chandra Kumar just as he was attempting to board a train to escape to another region.
Police recorded his confession statement in the presence of panchas, completed the necessary procedural formalities, and produced him before the court for judicial remand on Tuesday.
